The Isaiah Project is the second Saturday of every month. Watch our volunteers tell their story about why they do this! Click here The Second Saturday of every month, volunteers serve a hot lunch, give away groceries, clothing, diapers and furniture at the corner of 7th and Patterson, Newport. Volunteers meet at Highland Hill Church, 638 Highland Ave., Ft. Thomas at 10:15. Together, we all load up the stuff in storage. We have a short meeting to orient new volunteers and discuss logistics. Then, in caravan style, we all head to 7th and Patterson (a parking lot in Newport's Housing Projects) to give everything away. We serve more than 150 families in about an hour and half. It's quite a party! Grocery Give-Away Grocery bags may contain 3-4 lbs. frozen meat, canned vegetables and soup, cereal, noodles or rice, beverages, fresh produce, snacks and toilet paper. Our partnership with the FreestoreFoodbank allows for this generous gift. Each dollar spent at the FSFB buys approximately $12.56 worth of groceries. There are no government programs that distribute or help families purchase diapers for their young children. Most families, due to low cash flow or lack of transportation, are forced to purchase diapers at the corner market for the most expensive price per diaper. Shoulder To Shoulder recruits churches and civic organizations throughout the community to drive for diapers one month each year. Approximately 2500 diapers are distributed each month. We invite the churches that have collected the diapers to join us in the distribution at Isaiah Project on the second Saturday of every month. If your church or civic organization would like to hold a diaper drive please contact Melissa Eames, melissaeames@yahoo.com or 859-371-0444. Furniture and Clothing Give-Away Color and design don't matter any more when you're sleeping on the floor. All donated clothing, furniture and household items are distributed free of charge. Furniture: Twin and full beds, couches, kitchen tables and dressers are in great demand! Gently used items need to be functional and in good repair, clean and bug-free. Many of these items will go to families in transition who have just received housing and have nothing to sit or sleep on. To make a donation, please email us at donations@shouldertoshoulderinc.org. Please call Melissa Eames, 859-371-0444, or email to arrange for pick up of large furniture items. Children’s clothing is always accepted and needed. Fresh food served by happy people. It doesn't get much better. Great homemade items are often served like Blueberry Cobbler and chicken soup when supplies are available. Come join us for a full belly and warm hug. Hold a clothing, diaper or furniture drive at your church or business! A great way to get your whole community plugged in would be to hold a drive for any of these items.
