There was a man there also very very nice insisted on walking me to my car he said this is not the best neighborhood to be walking at night, I wish I could have stayed longer but it was late. I have a displaced family living with me because of marital infidelity. Watching the mom continue to hurt the dad is breaking my heart and I was heavy with that burden when I left my house. I spent the day with an 18 year old kid who loves to drive my car. He chauffeured me around to the one thousand stops I had to make. He added about 500 stops to the day taking care of his family that lives all over the city. One of those stops was to pick up his cousin and her baby-daddy to visit the grave of their brother/cousin who would have been 22 today. I also visited the home of a family that is living in deplorable filth. My visit to this home has had me upset all day because the conditions were third-world horrifying right here in Newport KY.

When I stopped by a church to visit my Mom and share a Wed. evening meal with her, the band was practicing "Do This In Remembrance of Me." Today more than ever those words have powerful meaning. I spent this day walking through the darkness, brokenness and hurt in remembrance of the one who redeemed me from it.

Coming to my home tonight I seem to have never been more grateful for the heritage of responsibility, health and love from which I came...not to mention a hot shower and fragrant lotion.

It may have seemed like I did some good stuff for a few people today, but I receive the blessing of deepened faith, experiential understanding of the sacrifice made for me in which I put my faith, and the tenderness of an attitude of genuine gratitude to share with the people I love.

Family in need experience

Just to start I know I went a little overboard. I had to teach aerobics and just received the call right before leaving. I called Tony and left him a voicemail and asked him to pick up my girls, Taylor (age 7) and Carly (age 5) from the gym while I was teaching and they went shopping for the food. They met me back at the gym and all of us delivered the food to Donna in Newport. My girls were so excited to help her. When we went in Donna just put her head in her hands and sobbed. We helped her put the groceries away and we hugged her and she thanked us over and over. It was such a wonderful experience and me, Tony, Taylor and Carly look forward to doing it again. Thanks for the opportunity to serve!

Lisa

How do I join?

If you would like to join the blog, please email Melissa, melissa@shouldertoshoulderinc.org, and she'll send you an invitation.
